Our mission is to surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities in Schools of Laredo is about helping young people to stay in school, successfully learn and prepare for life by coordinating needed community resources in the schools that we serve. We believe that keeping kids in school is more than a school problem. It’s a community problem involving parents, neighbors, health‐care providers, business leaders, social workers, counselors, mentors, tutors, and volunteers as part of the solution. Communities in Schools of Laredo brings resources, volunteers and service providers into the schools and enables them to work as one coordinated team.
Everything we do is guided by the “Five Basics.” Developed by our founder Bill Milliken, the Five Basics are a set of essentials that every child needs and deserves.

In addition to the Five Basics, CIS of Laredo delivers services and activities in six critical areas, known as the Six Components. Each component has specific state-approved activities that are align to their campus goals. They are the following:
